More Advice from a Pro, Part Two

Anne is the professional photographer that presented tips for beach photos last week on our blog.  This week,  I asked her to share with our readers a couple of her tips for photographing weddings.  She passed along the two that she feels are most important.

My first tip deals with the relationship between me and my client.  Wedding days are so complex!  Between the emotions, the details that go into creating the day, and everything else in between, the one thing that I am certain to bring with me as a photographer is a positive outlook and a smile.  Staying upbeat and encouraging the client, no matter what the circumstances and challenges of the day, is the most important aspect of any wedding.  After all, it is a milestone event for my client!

Now let me address the actual shooting.  My method of operation is to always start wide to capture the scene as a whole…and then to move in for closer details. This is my approach for everything–the ceremony, the couple’s portraits, the reception design, the first dance, etc. I find it to be the best strategy for the entire day.  I first shoot the room in its entirety and then begin to focus on the details.  For example, I go for the entire dance scene first, then focus in to the people smiling and watching the newlyweds, then finally fill the entire frame with just the couple.   This way I can allow the wedding to be viewed as a story, a story that draws you in and shows you the event from the beginning to the end.

Thanks so much, Anne, for sharing your insights with our readers again.  June is the month for weddings!  As you can see below, Anne’s work speaks for itself.
